living to hear the cry

i heard Don Golden speak last night about the book he co-wrote with Rob Bell called Jesus Wants to Save Christians. after the talk, i was standing with him and a few other friends talking about some of the ideas he had shared. in the context of living a life that answers the cry of the poor and oppressed, he said something that was profound to me. this is a paraphrase:

you know you have got it when there are no prayer meetings at the airport to send you off... it's just what we do

that may not pack the punch it did in full context but does its make sense to you? he works for World Relief and cited the example that when WR staff get on a plane to Africa, no one is sending them off with banners and prayer meetings. it's part of what they do, their work, their identity.

i am still processing much from the evening but that sticks in my mind at the moment. i do highly recommend reading the book.
