home is

______________________________________ (fill in the blank)

Is the old saying true?
"home is where your heart is"

I struggle with the question "where are you from?" because sometimes I say Minnesota, but then sometimes I even say Fort Wayne. When I drive to Minnesota, I say I am going HOME. When I leave Minnesota, I say I am going HOME. These questions are answered by home in the past tense, meaning where I've come from- where I was raised- where I go back to. I was born in Denver, but that is not home. I lived in San Diego and actually have memories of our home. I lived in Ann Arbor and still cheer GO BLUE! I lived in Charlotte and am thankful that is not home. So,

But if someone asked me to answer based on the saying "home is where your heart is"- I might say Africa, I might say an orphanage in Haiti with some precious babies sick and hungry, I might say California given my grad school hopes, I might say my bed because I could use a nap.

It's almost a stresssful question to me. I don't know where I'm from or where my home will be in 9 months.

Which is why Hebrews 11 is not only a challenge to me to live in light of eternity, but a comforting reminder- as if someone is saying "I'll leave the light on for you".

Hebrews 11
9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God...16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

I pray this becomes more of a reality every day to me. I want to stop holding onto things of this world. I want to long to be with Jesus. I want to invite others to spend eternity praising him. I want to have faith even when home seems stressful on this earth.

Praise God that he is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is the same in Ann Arbor (no comments any OSU fans), and Denver, and Fort Wayne. And praise Him that

Then there's the saying "home is where you hang your hat"... but I don't wear hats.

brooke, your status today inspired me to write down these thoughts... welcome home to wherever you are hanging your fanny pack today.

Steph- thank you for this. I was looking for some hope today, and have been stuck on this idea that we're all so scattered and that its not fair we don't have one home. But we will, and it'll be great :)
