kenya blog # 2: faith like a child

on our first sunday in nairobi we attended worship service at mamlaka hills chapel. the worship leader explained that we'd be singing children's songs that morning. odd as it may seem to us, he told us these songs could be great reminders of where we'd come from in our faith. many of us had learned about God through these songs at a young age, or we'd come to faith in our childhood at time we were singing songs such as these.

along with hundreds of kenyan believers in this congregation, we sang songs such as "i've got the joy" and "shepherd of my soul" in praise to God.

the morning was especially meaningful to me as we were preparing our hearts to spend a week working with children.

it's easy for me to get wrapped up in deep spiritual ideas or debates and the desire for more knowledge, sometimes at the expense of praising him for the fact that "i've got the joy down in my heart"

in the same service, the pastor said this phrase:
the sun never sets on the kingdom of God

he reminded us that God is always at work in the world, and His kingdom will reign forever unlike past great empires (roman, for example) that eventually died. at the same time believers are praying as they go to bed on one side of the world- believers are waking up singing praises and spending early morning time with Him on another side of the world. what an incredible thought!
