kenya blog # 3: elephants, giraffes and my small box

backing up a day...for our first day in country we visited a few tourist sites in nairobi as we attempted to adjust our body clocks to local time.

two of our stops were wildlife preserves of sorts- an elephant orphanage and a giraffe manor.

i saw God.

i've always loved macro photography and have mostly shot flowers and babies. i have seen God in the small details of flower petals and baby toes, realizing that a BIG God has designed every bit and created them for His glory.

this time I saw God in the giant size of baby elephants and enormous giraffe heads. sure i saw the incredible detail of their eyelashes and tails and spots (seriously, i looked at this stuff) but moreso I got so fired up that God created these giant animals that could squish me and yet He is so much bigger!

that evening, tony led our team in a worship time focused on "expanding our boxes". we read revelation 4 and worshipped God for all that we saw in this passage about how BIG and great He is.

he encouraged us through the week to tell stories of God to help one another grow in our understanding of the greatness or bigness of God.

this idea of my box or idea of God being still so small was only the beginning of many lessons in faith during our trip. i'm so thankful that God has allowed me to step out of my normal routine every year or so to serve him somewhere overseas. each trip has served as a very timely lesson in faith, priorities, and growing in Christ-likeness.

revelation 4
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME

WORTHY ARE YOU, OUR LORD AND OUR GOD, TO RECEIVE GLORY AND HONOR AND POWER, FOR YOU CREATED ALL THINGS, AND BECAUSE OF YOUR WILL THEY EXISTED, AND WERE CREATED
